Ovarian ageing is a complex process orchestrated by physiological, environmental and genetic factors, yet biological pathways underlying ovarian ageing are not fully characterised. My research is oriented towards identifying the mechanisms related to ovarian ageing, as well as their relevance for susceptibility of non-cancer ageing traits and disease outcomes. This will be investigated using large-scale genetic epidemiological approaches, GWAS for age at menopause, and Mendelian randomisation analyses of GWAS variants as gene scores to identify causal relationship to generated disease, supported by functional studies. The results obtained could inform on new molecular markers and mechanisms underlying ageing.
