My background as veterinarian makes me curious in bridging veterinary and human medicine, especially in the field of fertility and reproductive biology, to explore possible solutions to tackle various problems.
My PhD is focusing on the sperm-egg interaction prior to fertilisation in Drosophila melanogaster. My overall goal is to first establish an in vitro fertilisation (IVF) system in Drosophila and utilise it to interrogate the downstream pathways of fly fertilisation including pattern formation in the embryo. Using Drosophila as a model offers many advantages for testing the molecular mechanisms involved in sperm recognition and fertilisation which are challenging in internal fertilisers.
I believe interspecies approach will benefit us for many novel findings in physiology or medicine in the future.
