The Reproductive Turn: A Cambridge Reproduction Forum
Date: 18 October 2023 - 13:30 to 18:00
Event location: Yusuf Hamied Court Seminar Rooms, Christ's College
This event asks:“What do we see differently when we look through a reproductive lens?”
Connecting intimate moments and planetary politics, reproduction has extraordinary reach and is implicated in the most urgent problems in the world today, from maternal mortality to the climate emergency, biotechnologies to migration. Across medicine and the sciences, arts and humanities, reproduction presents not simply problems and opportunities, but a set of compelling conceptual, sociological and historical challenges. Cambridge Reproduction is part of an international effort to highlight the advantages of recognizing the significance of reproduction.
Yet in many disciplines reproduction has been marginalized or rendered invisible; organizing narratives were often set up with the subject as an afterthought. This workshop invites Cambridge researchers to reflect on the status of reproduction in our fields: what this is, what it should be, and what difference change could make.
