With regret, the managers of the Anne McLaren Fund have this morning taken the difficult and painful decision to postpone our Symposium scheduled for next Tuesday 17 March. In addition to the increased risk to individual participants and to others, we are reluctant to proceed given the significant decline in attendance that is already the result of the Coronavirus outbreak. Several speakers have already cancelled and participants withdrawn from this and many similar events across the world. Our current plan is to investigate the possibility of postponing our event for a year until next March 23 2021. Once we have confirmed the viability of shifting to this date we will be back in touch about rescheduling. In the meantime we are arranging for your tickets to be refunded and we are as ever happy to receive any questions from you about next steps. We would like to thank you for your patience, and your interest in the Symposium. We hope we will see you at a rescheduled Anne McLaren Symposium on ‘Synthetic Gametes’ next March in Cambridge.

The second Anne McLaren Symposium will be held in Christ's College, Cambridge on Tuesday 17 March 2020. It follows a successful meeting held last December at the Wellcome Trust and adopts the same format in that each 15-minute talk will be followed by 15 minutes of general discussion. The theme for this second meeting again emphasises translational bioscience in its widest sense, this time with a focus on synthetic gametes, and once again drawing on a wide range of disciplinary perspectives.

The meeting will be held in the Yusuf Hamied Theatre in Christ's College, Cambridge. The postal address is:

Christ's College
St Andrew's Street

The Yusuf Hamied Theatre is located on the ground floor of the Yusuf Hamied Centre in New Court. There is step-free and wheelchair access to the theatre, and a hearing loop is available for delegates. The accessible toilets are in the basement of the building, which can be reached by lift. There is parking near the building for blue badge holders.

For any access-related enquiries, please contact Christina Rozeik (

The draft conference programme is available online here. The meeting poster is available here:

This event will be livestreamed. Keep an eye on this page on the day of the event for information about how you can watch the symposium online.

To attend the conference, please complete the online registration form. There is a small charge of £10 per delegate to cover catering costs. We are able to waive this cost for a small number of delegates in cases of hardship. Please contact Christina Rozeik ( for more information about this.

We are very grateful to the conference sponsors and supporters:
