The FibroidsFree team at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Cambridge, are delighted to invite you to their forthcoming symposium, “Breaking the Silence about Uterine Fibroids: A Pathway to Legislative Change” to be held at Homerton College, on 12th May 2026 13:00-19:00.
As highlighted in the recently launched All-Party Parliamentary Group on Black Health (APPG) report uterine fibroids, despite affecting an estimated 70–80% of women, remain significantly overlooked in worldwide health discussions and clinical care pathways. Their goal is to help ensure that fibroids are meaningfully addressed within the UK Government’s next Women’s Health Strategy and also globally, with a particular emphasis on improving diagnosis, treatment, awareness, and education.
The meeting will bring together leaders across healthcare, policy, and research, including representatives from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Royal College of General Practitioners, and consultants and medical directors of the National Health Service East of England and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The policy theme panel will also feature their international partners, including Sateria Venable, Founder and CEO of The Fibroid Foundation, who led efforts to introduce the Fibroid Bill to both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, and Samira Rafaela, former MEP and a Women's rights and health advocate.
